In the Vedic and Vaishnava tradition, the adoption of sannyasa, or life of renunciation, is a step that requires profound spiritual and mental preparation. Taking sannyasa without being properly qualified can lead to negative consequences, including madness. Lack of preparation can make a person unprepared to deal with the intensity of worship and the effects of karma they accumulate through their practice. A clear example is the case of some public figures who, by trying to assume spiritual leadership roles without proper preparation, have faced personal crises. The pressure of worship and community expectation can result overwhelming. Without a solid foundation in spiritual teachings and practices, these people can lose course, experience anxiety, depression, or develop erroneous behaviors.
