In the Vedic philosophy, the claim to be a pure Vaiṣṇa (devotion of Vishnu) and the claim to be an essential principle of humility (adhikāra) and proper qualification (adhikāra) can actually alter the natural order of spiritual progress. The Bhagavad-adhikārī (spiritual principle) and the Viṣṇu Purāṇa are immediately warned that such hypocrisy – from which a principle is equal only to advanced devotees – results in duplicity (āśāṭhya) and false orgullo (dambha) absorption, both being classified as long-term sinful reactions.
