The truth about institutional abuse Cutting off the root of the problem within the institution is essential: defending abusers with recommendation letters or personal references is a form of spiritual manipulation, a true gaslighting. A predator does not cease to be it because he smiles at other people or because he shows a good face in certain contexts. Keeping silence before abuse is not neutrality, it is complicity. If we allow the “good behavior in other fields” to erase the damage caused, we are not defending the Dharma or ethical principles; on the contrary, we are facilitating its collapse.
