But don’t think of the existence of God with the Socratic method. Socrates: Do you think that everything that exists has a cause? You: Yes, do you think that everything has a cause. Socrates: And if the chain of causes goes back to infinity? But how can we assume that this origin is God? Socrates: Do you not define God as “the first cause, necessary, eternal and perfect”? If your reasoning leads to such an entity, is it not logical to deny it after questioning: “Thou, if you?”
