Many sannyasis and gurus end up declaring that they have become ill due to the overwhelming responsibility of meeting the expectations of their followers. This is, in fact, their inability as conditioned souls that they are, to withstand the burden of worship. This phenomenon, together, negatively impacts the institution. Individuals who should be models of spiritual behavior deteriorate mentally, undermining the trust of the community.
