"According to social conventions, it is said that one can say the truth only when it is pleasant to others. But that is not truthfulness. Truth must be expressed in a direct and sincere way, so that others really understand what the facts are. If a man is a thief and people are warned that he is, that is the truth. Though the truth is sometimes unpleasant, one must speak it without restriction. Truthfulness demands presenting the facts as they are, for the benefit of others. That is the definition of truth."
