Krishna says that His devotees transcend the ways. But one thing is to affirm the existence of transcendence and another very different thing is to it. Real achievement begins with the question, "Where am I?" Until we determine our current position, how can we determine how to get to where we want to go? We must make an inventory, and for that we need to know the symptoms of the different ways of nature. The ways are subtle. We must be able to detect its influence on ourselves and on others. In other words, we must develop a certain degree of discrimination—a key word in Krishna consciousness. Therefore, we must make the effort to study this subject thoroughly.
